Ways of Giving:

Friends of the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site will lead the effort to raise all funds for elements of the campaign. All gifts to either the Park Service or to the Friends organization are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowable by law. The National Park Service may accept gifts for which they are authorized. Efforts are under way to obtain Congressional approval to allow the Park Service to accept gifts of property that are not currently within the legislative  boundaries of the park. Larger gifts may be paid over two to three years through written pledges.

Besides cash and pledges of cash, donors may also contribute in other ways, each offering tax advantages attractive to individual financial planning. The campaign is prepared to help structure a gift plan that will enable donors to realize the maximum benefit for their philanthropic commitment. Donors also should consult their personal financial advisors regarding the various options and their technical requirements.

Gifts of Appreciated Securities- Significant gifts are frequently paid with long-term capital-gain securities; appreciated assets can often provide donors with attractive income-tax benefits, enabling them to leverage their gifts.

Deferred or Planned Giving - Certain forms of deferred or planned giving, including charitable remainder trusts, are attractive way s to reduce gift-tax costs and obtain naming opportunities, Bequest and insurance-policy beneficiary designations will also help build an endowment.

Gifts of Real Estate- Donors may make gifts of real estate, including fractional portions of properties; however, since real-estate transactions are relatively complex, these plans should be thoroughly reviewed beforehand.

Tangible Personal Property - Fine-art objects, antiqure furnishings, rare books, an other items can offer donors an immediate tax deduction; valuation for income-tax purposes will require an independent appraisal.

Matching gifts - Donors who serve on a corporate board of directors or work for a company with a matching-gifts program have an opportunity to augment their gifts in significant ways. They should contact the company's matching-gift office to learn more about the program an its requirements.
